Providing Family Fun Since 1901!
For more than a century, the Moorlyn has served as a beloved gathering place for family-friendly entertainment in Ocean City. First opened as Moore's Bowling Casino in 1901, it was a major attraction of its time. Over the years a roller rink was added, and eventually replaced with a 200-seat movie house called the Nickelodeon, where film fans paid just five cents for a seat. In 1922, the building was renamed the Moorlyn Theatre, presenting vaudeville acts and silent movies with live organ accompaniment. Miraculously surviving the sweeping boardwalk fire of 1925, the Moorlyn was moved to its current boardwalk location using rails, horses and windlasses. From the dawn of the 'talkies' through a 1980s-era renovation that split the theater into four screens, the Moorlyn remained a fixture on the entertainment scene. In 2012, the Ocean City Tabernacle took ownership of the building and the Moorlyn became the Moorlyn Family Theatre. Now a combination movie house and live entertainment venue, today's Moorlyn Family Theatre leads an exciting new era of entertainment in Ocean City.
